Endorsement of the HW20 from kiter Barbara Meyer....
Just as you need a genki for those light wind days, you need a high wind Killip 20 for when it is too much wind for your other kites. You know, those days when people say to you, wow, good day for kites, and you just cringe when saying, "No, not really."
Think about the days that are 20 mph, 25, 30 or even 35 mph. The HW20 will not only fly, but park and lift any line laundry you are willing to risk.
While I am not sure if it is the riser venting or the 100 ft tail that allows this performance, I just know it works.

Killip Foil HW20
The project the Killips are offering is their High Wind 20. It is a 20 square foot version of the Killip Foil. The 20 is almost legendary in these parts for its ability to fly rock steady in 20+ mph winds, and if you dare 30 mph. The HW20 starts to fly at about 10 mph. Let it out to about 300 feet or so of 500# test line. The kite is about 4 feet wide by 5 feet in length, comes with a 100 foot long fuzzy tail that you get to cut. This should be an easy two day project. The kite has 3 keels, 4 bottom panels, 4 top panels, 2 outside ribs and 3 inside ribs.
If you wish to applique the bottom I will provide the dimensions, you provide the fabric for the bottoms panels your self and I will reduce the price of the kit.
If your sewing machine will run a 33 weight thread I recommend using that for this build, if not a good 100% polyester thread will work but to push the kite to it’s limits use the 33 weight thread if you can.
Color wise you have Black, red, blue, sky blue, purple, dark green, Neon green, pink, yellow and orange. We plan on using black trim, black keel tips. Kit price should be about $225
Now please, please, please know how to use your sewing machine. Know how to thread your machine how to wind and load bobbins and how to thread your needle. A straight stich is all you will need , 6 to 8 stitches per inch.
Students should watch a video for a Maker Class in Jamestown 2024. Its for building a Killip foil 30 but the process it the same. You can skip the fabric layout and cutting out the pieces as that will already be done for you. Its import that you watch it so you know the steps.
We will confirm your colors for YOUR custom HW20 once you have enrolled.
Supplies/Equipment Needed for class -- Sewing Machine, thread, ripper, scissors and regular sewing supplies is typical of sewing classes. Please use a good 100% polyester thread, 33 weight thread recommended. Please have multiple bobbins wound for class.
