SUPPLIES SUGGESTED: Sewing machine and everything that goes with it, thread (black suggested, but this is up to each participant) cutting mat, scissors, utility knives.
During quarantine Holm started experimenting with small sleds, sewing different colors together in different ways to find out what was possible and what worked with color and design. Holm has been using this technique to inspire him for using the patterns on larger projects.
In this class students will bring their own scrap ripstop, or use some the class will provide. This will give students the opportunity to play with fabric colors and experiment on a small scale. Holm will discuss and demonstrate different sewing patterns. The class will practice with their scraps and then cut those practice pieces into feathers and finish the feathers. We will also play with different designs, patchwork and applique.
And last but not least, we will create something that the students can wear themselves, swap or pass on.
The Swifties have their bracelets, U-MAKE has its feathers. :-)
Holm will bring edgebinding material, string and beads - they are included in the class kit. Each kit will have enough for three feathers.
This ensures that each student can try out different color combinations and sewing techniques on a small scale before using techniques or colors in a larger project.
