I started making kites in 1986, lucky enough to go to Dieppe kite festival, then Weifang and Beijing dragon festivals 1988. There I met great kite people like Scott Skinner, Tom Casselman, Tal Streeter, Peter Lynn, just to name a few.
Back in France, I started building stunt kites and competing with them. I won the french championships several times from 1989 to 1996 as an individual, Eurocup (masters ind.) in 1992 (this is when I "invented" painting with a rev and won innovatives with it ;)) and 1995, Wildwood precision in 1995.
As a pair, we won French nationals every time from 1994 to 1998, Eurocup 3 times if I remember well and Guadeloupe Intercontinental championships. As a team , we won several European and french competition, and took 2d at 1998 World Cup, (team Kheops).
From 1995 to 2000, I took a break as a teacher and worked for different brands as a kite designer (ITV, Kites Unlilited, HQ, Invento). At the same time, I wrote many articles for Cerf Volant Passion and Kite Passion.
I took this opportunity to write long interviews of some of my Stunt Kite heros, like Ron Reich, Scott Aughenbaugh, Carl Robertshaw or Lee Sedgwick. Together with Lee, we flew demos painting with quad lines and had so much fun!
At the same time, I was french national team head coach, trying to share everything I knew with the rising ones.
I never gave up building single liners and traditional kites. My kites won several awards at Dieppe International artistic contest, which I later judged.
I learned a lot with André Cassagnes and my good friends George Peters, Steve Brockett or Robert Trépanier.
In 1997, we had a tragic car accident in Johor, Malaysia, which led me to slowly stop travelling for kite festivals.
In 1998, we split our Kheops team, and my team mates founded Awita, focusing more on soft giants kite shows, which don't appeal me at all...
I had a break from 2000 to 2010, no kites. I came back to kite making with my friend Steve Brockett in 2010, with the Eclipse...
Now I just go to Dieppe, Notre Dame de Monts and of course Cervia Festivals, to keep sharing good times with my friends, and learning from them.
Thanks to Ron Gibian, Alicja Salska or Scott Hampton for their lessons in kite perfection!
