Kits will include 20 sheets of printed washi, one 20M roll of double-sided tape, one sheet of plastic template material, 6 pieces of bamboo appropriate for these two kites.
Participants will use color copies on washi to make two full-size Japanese kites: (Kite 1) either a Suruga, Buka, or Kaku, and (Kite 2) either a Rokkaku or Sode. Both kite sails will be made by assembling squares cut from full-page color copies of the participants' choice. Kites will be up to about 30" by 26".
This workshop will use Hiromi Paper treated washi printed paper. Prints would be cut, simple patchwork style, to produce surprising and beautiful kite sails.
Students should bring a steel ruler/straight edge, razor-cutter, pencil or fine point pen.
