Simply Silhouette Della Porta

The silhouette is an outline shape that can make a plain kite look dramatic. A silhouette also makes for a good first appliqué project beyond the basic geometric shapes.

In this class you will learn how to enlarge artwork (or at least how I do it), and basic appliqué techniques. In addition, you will learn some basic techniques using Design Master paints to give your silhouette depth and interest. Appliqué framing techniques will also be shared.

The project is a basic Della Porta kite (a simple flat kite) and fuzzy tail. The appliqué shown is the Dave Miller Band Fire Dancer. You may use this art, bring your own design that's ready to draw/trace out (kite is 30”w x 38”h) or you are welcome to email me your thumbnail design and I'll make the overhead transparency for enlargement. Need inspiration? Check out clip art designs—please keep it simple. Your choices are to put a black silhouette on a light color or a light colored silhouette on black. 

Supplies/Equipment Needed for class -- Sewing Machine, thread, ripper, scissors and regular sewing supplies is typical of sewing classes.
