Description: Make a great flier with Donna Schenk. Learn the techniques and apply them to your next project!
This class will show you the methods used by Ansel Toney and Merrick Beck to
make a diagonally striped delta kite that was a signature style of these men. The project for this class is a 62”w x 32”h delta.
Additional concepts will be taught/discussed in this class. This will include sizing up the kite (you always wanted to build your own 20 ft. Delta, admit it!), or sizing it down (great way to use up scraps and make great kites for kids and beginner kiters!) Also information about making delta derivatives like a double keeled delta, or delta conyne will be explored. You will also learn tips and tricks to effectively use your rotary cutter and mat.
Principles from Dan Leigh for sparring and spreader rod placement will also be
used and explained in this class. You will build a kite in the class from a kit, but
you will learn how to start from scratch and design your own kite for future
projects.
This is a beginner sewing project, but will be beginner to advanced in concepts.
Supplies/Equipment Needed for class -- Sewing Machine, thread, ripper, scissors and regular sewing supplies. Also needed is a rotary cutter and mats to "square" your delta, or use the instructors!
KIT ORDER CUT OFF: by 2/03/2017 Extra kits available to any 2017 U-MAKE Registrant, but you will miss the great discussions!
COLOR CHOICE: Colors will be selected in class. Everything will be provided in class to make a delta kite.
KIT PRICE: Project is $20-$25 US
