Ed was born and raised in Mosinee, Wisconsin. He has a BS degree from Western Michigan University in Pulp and Paper Technology and Chemistry. Ed and his wife Gloria, lived in Franklin, Virginia; Alpena, Michigan; and Port Huron, Michigan. Ed was the Director of Manufacturing Systems at Little Rapids Corporation until his retirement in March 2009.
Ed has been the vice president of the Wisconsin Kiters’ kite club and has been a member of the Minnesota Kite Society for over 12 years. He enjoys making kites and has attended MAKR a number of times. Ed has competed in the kite making competition at the AKA national convention on five occasions and has won a second and third place award as well a special award for the best use of original materials.
In conjunction with a local merchant, Ed started the annual Shawano Fun Fly kite festival in 2007. He has been making and flying kites since he was 15 years old. For the last several years Ed has been leading kite-making classes for church groups, 4H groups, the Wisconsin Kiter’s Kite Club and for U-MAKE.
