Rod Beamguard hails from Vancouver, Washington, the original Vancouver, and has been a teacher (math, physics, earth science, 4th grade) and an income tax preparer, retired from both. Most of his flying is done on the Long Beach Peninsula of Washington, one of the best places to fly kites.

Rod has been making single line kites for 40+ years, starting with an 8-ft delta and a 6.5-ft rokkaku. During this time he has taught classes at:

> The Fort Worden Kitemakers Conference (Barn Door, Schlangendrachen – a pentagon dragon, John Freeman’s Bird On the Wire, Malay, and a class on knots),

> The Oregon Kitemakers Retreat (Barn Door and a Rokkaku),

> The World Kite Museum and Hall of Fame in Long Beach, WA (Schlangendrachen, Bird on The Wire, a quilted Hidden Wells Square Diamond, and the Not A Peter Lynn),

> and numerous classes in various elementary schools.

He also is among the judges for the handcrafted kite event at the Washington State International Kite Festival. Rod has also served the Washington Kitefliers Association as newsletter editor, the AKA as treasurer, and is currently on the board of directors for the Fort Worden Kitemakers Conference.
